When I was a new widow I desperately tried to order my grief into the five stages that had been drilled into me as a nurse. Denial. Anger. Bargaining. Depression. Acceptance. They are so familiar.
Instead, as a new widow, it seemed as if time stood still, and I was suspended in space. When would the tidy grief I had learned about in nursing school begin?
